Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige responded to the news that Spider-Man: Brand New Day set a box office record for biggest opening weekend

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige reacted to the sequel’s box-office success in a new interview with Variety. Brand New Day now holds the record for the biggest opening weekend for a theatrical film ever, besting another Marvel Cinematic Universe entry, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

“There are always plans. But right now, he’s going to rest after that global tour,” Feige, 53, told Variety, when asked if there are plans to make another Spider-Maninstallment starring Holland, 30, as Peter Parker. “He and Zendaya are going to take a good and restful victory lap, which they very much deserve.”
Holland and Zendaya, 29, have traveled the world in recent months promoting both Brand New Day and their work together in Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey (released July 17). The pair has appeared in Marvel and Sony’s ongoing Spider-Man franchise alongside costar Jacob Batalon since its began with 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The new Destin Daniel Cretton-directed film, costarring Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink, picks up years after 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Peter facing a new threat to New York City while his friends continue to have no memory of him. It has grossed $360 million in North America and $932 million globally as of Monday, Aug. 3, according to multipleoutlets.
“It’s overwhelming, frankly, to find ourselves in this position on a Monday morning,” Feige told Variety. “In the very best way.”

The Marvel Studios head added that he didn’t expect Brand New Day to surpass the opening weekend record set by Avengers: Endgame (which also starred Holland; the British star has now appeared in cinema’s four highest global opening weekends ever).
“But once the bar had been raised, it could be raised again, right?” Feige said, shouting out Holland, Cretton, fellow producer Amy Pascal and distributor Sony Pictures. “I couldn’t be happier that [Endgame] was beat this past weekend by our 38th MCU movie.”

Feige added, “It’s a testament to what Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created all those years ago. People can write about changing tastes, but as characters that grow and evolve through the decades, there are none better than the Marvel characters — and none better than Peter Parker. When you find an actor like Tom Holland to bring that character to life, it is the magic formula.”
The biggest box office hits domestically in 2026 so far are Toy Story 5,The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael Jackson biopic Michael and The Odyssey, per Box Office Mojo.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey are now in theaters.
