Vice President JD Vance will appear on The View next week in a shocking move.

The VP's scheduled interview comes amid an FCC inquiry into the talk show and sustained White House criticism of its cohosts.

Vance will appear in order to promote his book Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.

In a shocking move for The View, Vice President JD Vance will sit with the cohosts for an interview live on the air.

The conservative political figure's appearance is set for Tuesday, June 16's live show, and comes amid ongoing drama between the Federal Communications Commission and the ABC talk show, which FCC head Brendan Carr has repeatedly criticized in recent months over what he feels is a left-leaning bias.

After the news broke Thursday morning, View moderator Whoopi Goldberg made a subsequent announcement at the top of the day's episode, telling the studio audience, "This will be one of many questions that we will be asking our guest on Tuesday," with regard to the discussion at hand about President Donald Trump's recent comments about the economy. "We're going to be joined at the table by Vice President JD Vance."

The reveal drew audible gasps from the audience, before the show went to a commercial break. A commercial then played, further touting that Vance would appear on the talk show alongside all six cohosts, including Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and former Trump White House staffer, Alyssa Farah Griffin.

Disney, ABC's parent company, recently filed a petition for declaratory ruling, alleging that the FCC's probe into the show's alleged violation of the equal time rule threatens "to upend decades of settled law and practice and chill critical protected speech."

The FCC launched its inquiry after the show aired an interview with Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, which the federal agency said violated the equal time rule mandating that equal airtime be given to all candidates seeking a specific office, though entertainment-style talk shows have typically been exempt from the rule over the years.

Additionally, the White House has repeatedly criticized The View in a series of statements in recent months, including calling Navarro "stupid" and referring to Behar as "Joyless" in a play on her first name.

The View cohosts have, for years, voiced opposition to Trump and his administration, including Vance.

In April, Griffin, who worked under Trump at the White House before resigning and subsequently speaking out against him, slammed Vance's remarks about Pope Leo XIV in which he advised that the religious leader should "be careful" while speaking about theology.

"Talking about it from a political and a PR perspective, I can't think of a dumber fight to pick ahead of the midterms than with the Christian voting base, the evangelical Christians who've been with Trump, but then with the Catholic base," Griffin said on the air.

She continued, "So right now, heading into midterms that already look bleak for Republicans, this is the last fight you want to be picking. It makes zero sense."

Goldberg previously slumped over in her chair after comedian and interview guest Bowen Yang referred to Vance in April 2025 as a "pope killer" in a joke referring to Pope Francis dying hours after a meeting with Vance.
