Oliver Tree shared plans for his will in an interview weeks before his death

In the interview, he said he wished for his wealth to go to artists rather than his family after his death

The singer was on a world tour and had recently performed in São Paulo before the fatal crash

Weeks before Oliver Tree died in a helicopter accident in Brazil, the singer-songwriter opened up about the restrictions around his will.

During an appearance on the Zach Sang Show in April, the "Life Goes On" singer said that he didn't think his "wealth or the things that get made from it" were rightfully his — and he planned to give it all back when he died.

"When I die — I've set it up — my will is set up that when I pass, my family, no one's going to get a penny," Tree, who was 32, said.

"If I have a wife or kids or anything, [they're] not getting a f---ing penny. I'll get my kids through college That's the agreement. But there's not going to be a silver spoon," he continued. "They're taken care of because my dad worked on some stuff in the 2000s. The idea is, when I die, all the money is going to go back to artists."

Tree was among six fatalities in a crash involving two helicopters that collided in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, June 14, according to CNN Brazil.

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, the Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro confirmed the crash.

"The investigation is ongoing at the 42nd Police Precinct. A forensic examination was conducted at the scene, and agents are awaiting the report from the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents," police said.

"The bodies of the six victims will undergo forensic examination for identification, which will be compared to data in the records of the Air Operations Center," the statement continued.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.

At the time of his death, Tree was on a world tour and had performed a show in São Paulo on June 6. He was next set to play in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 1, according to his website.

Tree released his latest studio album, Love You Madly Hate You Badly, on April 24. His debut album, Ugly Is Beautiful, came out in 2020, followed by Cowboy Tears and Alone in a Crowd.

On the Zach Sang Show, Tree said he was aware that when he died, his art would be appreciated in a new light.

"When I die, my art will continue to have residuals and probably be worth more than it is now. People will finally appreciate my stupid f---ing videos or my stupid f---ing songs," he said. "That's when people appreciate you, when you're not there anymore."
