Niall Horan performed One Direction's "Steal My Girl" solo for the first time at Wembley Stadium

He later admitted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he realized he had never sung the verses before and worried about forgetting the lyrics mid-performance

This comes after the singer recently called "Steal My Girl" and "Fool's Gold" the band's most underrated songs in an interview

Niall Horan knows the dedication it takes to perform a One Direction song.

The "Slow Hands" singer, 32, opened up about performing his former band's song "Steal My Girl" in front of 80,000 fans at the Capital FM Summertime Ball at London's Wembley Stadium on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

While chatting about the event, Jimmy Fallon, 51, asked him what it was like to "do the whole song by yourself," especially since he only had a few lines in the original studio version of the hit track.

"That's so funny you say that because I was thinking, as I was singing it, literally as I was singing the first verse, I was like, 'I've never sung this verse before,' " Horan recalled.

The musician sings one line in the pre-chorus — "I know, I know, I know for sure" — and harmonizes during the chorus of the original song, according to Billboard.

"I would have only ever sung my part, so I don't think I've ever sung any those [other] verses before," he explained. "And here I was in front of 80,000 people going, 'Oh crap, I better not forget the words here.'"

He went on to say that even if he had forgotten the lyrics, the thousands of One Direction fans in the audience "probably would have sung it" for him anyway, adding, "it was loud in there."

Fallon then asked Horan "how long" he would sing in songs released by his former band — which disbanded a decade ago — to which he responded, "I'd say, maximum 40 seconds a song."

The "Dinner Party" singer's performance comes a few months after he revealed during an interview with NME that he believed "Steal My Girl" from One Direction's 2014 album Four was the band's most "underrated" song.

He then quipped of the track, which reached No. 13 on Billboard's Hot 100, No. 17 on Billboard's Pop Airplay and No. 37 on Billboard's Adult Pop charts, "Imagine...if everyone asked me, 'What's your hot take?' and I was like, 'Well, I think 'Steal My Girl' should have been bigger.'"

"I think it was robbed of its day in the sun," he added, while noting that another track he thought was underrated was  "Fool's Gold."

Horan recently released his new LP Dinner Party, which follows his previous solo albums Flicker (2017), Heartbreak Weather (2020), and The Show (2023).
