LIV Golf boss makes feelings clear on Bryson DeChambeau leading meeting without him

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil made his feelings clear regarding a player meeting led by two-time U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau.
The meetings are nothing new to LIV Golf, as sources confirmed before the New York event that these types of gatherings are usual. But this one was bigger. DeChambeau spoke with his fellow players after Tuesday’s practice round at Trump National Bedminster, with Richard Bland saying everyone was backing the profound meeting leader and O’Neil - just before the circuit just announced they’ve found a new investor following the 2026 season.
DeChambeau has been a notable name in the survival of LIV Golf, and the 32-year-old led yesterday's player meeting as speculation continued of the possible cancellation of LIV Golf Michigan.

“I've been around the sports business for quite some time, 30 years, dare I say it,” said O’Neil. “I've been around some really special teams and some teams that really struggle. I've been around teams with tremendous leaders, and I've been around teams where it's a collective effort.”
O’Neil announced that players will be offered equity in LIV Golf, as some of their futures are in question and DeChambeau’s contract expires at the end of the 2026 season.
“I always appreciate when there's players only just about anything,” added O’Neil. “I think it's an opportunity to air and share.

“It's an opportunity to learn and give and grow, opportunity to challenge each other. In some cases, it's about the play on the court or field or pitch or ice or course, and other times it's quite different.”
DeChambeau was one of the last players to walk out of the building at Trump National Bedminster following the player meeting. Reporters waited for an update, but none was given.
“I wasn't in there, but all I can say is that we have a collection of incredible human beings playing in LIV Golf, and a lot of them are terrific leaders,” said O’Neil.

“From what I've heard and understand, it was a really robust conversation with a lot of players. At least from my perspective, couldn't have a more positive impact.”
The players did leave with positive attitudes, with one player calling it ‘emotional’ after reporters asked how it was in there.
“So the more I think players can talk and communicate and collaborate and get together, the better. This has historically been a chronically individual sport, and I think this notion of pulling players together in teams may foster a different type of collaboration than has been seen in golf before, but very supportive of what happened and where we're heading,” added O’Neil.
