Get ready for the Ingalls family like you've never seen them before.
On Thursday, June 11, Netflix released the official trailer for the new Little House on the Prairie series, which revisits Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved book series.
As Pa Charles (Luke Bracey) explains when the trailer begins, he is in search of a "fresh start for my family," but it's a more challenging transition than expected, as the family soon learns there's "no post office, no church, no school" yet developed in the burgeoning town.
"What do you think?" Charles asks Ma Caroline (Crosby Fitzgerald) in the trailer. "It's so small," she says. "[That's] what we wanted, right? To be at the beginning of something."
But as the Ingalls family starts to settle into Independence and begin to build a home, they find that the land is not quite as empty as they once thought. "There's nothing free about this land at all," Mitchell (Meegwun Fairbrother) tells Pa.

There's also the environment to contend with. "I've seen entire families freeze to death out here, get taken by fever, wolves. It is a myth that men can make it out here alone," Dr. George Tann (Jocko Sims) warns Pa.

Full of doubt, Pa asks Ma in the trailer, "What if I was wrong? What if it isn't better here?"
"And what if this is where we finally become who we were meant to be?" she offers instead. "How will we ever know til we try?"
Along with Bracey and Fitzgerald, Alice Halsey stars as Laura Ingalls Wilder and Skywalker Hughes plays her older sister, Mary Ingalls. Warren Christie, Alyssa Wapanatâhk and Wren Zhawenim Gotts also star in the series.
Per the official logline, the series is a "fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder's iconic semi-autobiographical Little House books" that "offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier." It's described as "part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West."

The new adaptation will introduce a new perspective to the age-old story by including the narrative of the Indigenous communities in the arc of the Ingalls family. "If you're going to tell the story, then you need to tell both sides," Julie O'Keefe, the show's Osage cultural consultant, told Netflix's Tudum.
"I always like to say that this show is a love story about a family. They're a family you want to be with, you want to know, you want to spend time with," showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine told Tudum. "That's really at the core of what Little House on the Prairie is about: a family that is there for each other, tells stories to each other, tells stories about themselves."
Little House on the Prairie premieres July 9 on Netflix.
