James Van Der Beek's ex-wife Heather McComb says he blessed her new marriage

Heather McComb shared a heartfelt story about her last conversation with her ex-husband, the late James Van Der Beek.

In an interview with US Weekly published June 9, the "Day of Reckoning" actress, 49, recounted her final interaction with Van Der Beek before his death on Feb. 11 at age 48 following a battle with colorectal cancer. She said that Van Der Beek blessed her new marriage to her husband, Scott Michael Campbell, 54, whom she married in May after three years together.

"I will share one thing because I think it's beautiful. James and Kimberly [Van Der Beek] both knew that Scott and I were getting married and they both were so full of love and support and excitement," she told the outlet. "I know that James would want me to celebrate our love, just like he celebrated the love that he had for Kimberly, which was so beautiful."

She said she has "unparalleled" respect and admiration for her ex-husband's second wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, 44, and the love the pair had.

"I know that James would want me to celebrate our love, just like he celebrated the love that he had for Kimberly, which was so beautiful," McComb said.

The "Dawson's Creek" star and McComb married in 2003 before separating in 2009 and finalizing their divorce by 2010. James later married Kimberly in 2010 and they shared six children.

McComb and Campbell tied the knot on May 10, sharing a carousel of photos of their Montana ceremony on Instagram the next day.

"Our hearts are full and humbled by all of the love that we were surrounded by," she wrote in a lengthy post alongside a photo from the couple's nuptials.

In the US Weekly interview, McComb said she believes her ex-husband was watching over the wedding, adding that she noticed some signs.

"I know we had a lot of people up in heaven shining on us that day," she said. "It was magical in the sense that we saw a double rainbow, two ladybugs and two white doves."
