Heather Rae and Tarek El Moussa shared a cryptic message about feeling "violated" on Instagram
A source told PEOPLE the incident happened at their home while they were away on vacation
The couple and their children are currently vacationing in Cabo San Lucas with their extended family
Heather Rae El Moussa is sharing insight into a scary incident that left her and husband Tarek feeling "violated."
The HGTV and Selling Sunset star, 38, posted a cryptic message to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, June 9, revealing she would be "taking a break" for a while after an upsetting incident.
"Disgusted by some of the cruel heartless people in this world. Tarek and I feel violated and to be honest really sad. Taking a break for a few days and will [be] back to explain soon. We are safe & the kids are safe," she wrote, tagging her husband, 44, who shared the same post on his Instagram Stories.
A source tells PEOPLE of the incident: "The issue was at their house while they were away on vacation."

The couple announced in June 2025 that they had purchased a new home in Orange County, Calif. "We have some news….We're moving!!! We are so excited for this new chapter and new adventure for our family," they captioned an Instagram post at the time.
They've since shared many updates about their renovation process and dispatches of their daily life in the completed home, which also makes frequent appearances on their HGTV show, The Flip Off.
The couple is currently vacationing in Cabo San Lucas with their extended family, Heather previously shared in a separate Instagram post earlier this week.
In a June 8 Instagram Reel, she documented her family's travel experience to the Mexico hotspot, including what it was like to fly with three kids. The pair share 3-year-old son Tristan, and Tarek is also dad to daughter Taylor, 15, and son Brayden, 10, from his previous marriage to ex Christina Haack.

"Today is Cabo day. We got up super, super early. I was so tired, I couldn't even take videos this morning. We had to get three kids out the door by 7 a.m. — super fun," she explained in the clip as scenes of her family all seated in a van on the way to the airport were shown.
After they arrived at the airport, Heather added, "I got some snacks from the vending machine with Tristan. We were running around, Daddy was snuggling him and playing with him. And he was so excited to get on the airplane and get to Cabo. He could not wait, it was so cute."
A sweet clip of Tarek holding his little one appears on the screen, followed by Heather showing off her travel outfit.
"So on the airplane we had snacks and we snuggled, and Tristan got to sit on my lap," she continued. "We landed, they offered me a tequila shot. I passed because gotta get everything unpacked and organized before I could go into type B mode."

After she got all the luggage sorted, she reveals she was finally able to be in vacation mode and meet her husband for a drink.
"Went down and met Tarek at the bar, had a margarita. It's super windy here but we're going to have the best time," she concluded.
