- Season 5 ends on a shocking cliffhanger the tees up a new whodunit and location.

Just when you think that Mabel (Selena Gomez), Charles (Steve Martin), and Oliver (Martin Short) have run out of whodunits to solve, another one is taking our beloved trio overseas in the forthcoming season.

Last October, Hulu announced that *Only Murders in the Building* had been renewed for a sixth season, and it comes with an all-new setting for our favorite crime-solving podcasters. Our leads will be abandoning the mean streets of New York City for merry old London.

Season 5, which saw our sleuths unraveling the mystery of doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca), was the show's most star-studded yet, with appearances by Renée Zellweger, Richard Kind, and Dianne Wiest, among others.

Somehow, the show's next outing might have it beat. (There is, after all, a lot of talent across the pond.) Season 6's roster of guest stars is a veritable who’s-who of talent that includes rising stars, two former Doctor Whos, an Oscar winner, and a Spice Girl.

Will there be a season 6 of Only Murders in the Building?

Yes, season 6 of *Only Murders in the Building* was renewed in October 2025, shortly after the season 5 finale.

This was great news for the stars, who have said in numerous interviews that they'd love to keep making the show. “I really hope that I can just keep evolving Mabel as I get older, because I want to do this for a long time,” Gomez told *USA Today* in September 2025.

How did Only Murders in the Building season 5 end?

Season 5 centered on Mabel, Charles, and Oliver's efforts to discover who murdered the Arconia doorman Lester, whose body was found in a fountain.

In the finale, it is revealed that Lester was killed by Mayor Beau Tillman (Keegan-Michael Key). Beau confesses to our trio, explaining how Lester's murder was intertwined with the death of mobster Nicky Caccimelio (Bobby Cannavale).

As it turns out, Nicky's wife (Téa Leoni) was having an affair with Beau. After Nicky found out, he cut off Beau's finger and chased him with a cleaver. Lester stabbed Nicky, who then died after falling on his own cleaver. In order to keep his misdeeds a secret, Beau killed Lester.

Beau's attempts to trap Mabel, Charles, and Oliver fail, allowing the trio to escape and tell reporters what Beau did. Though he tries to deny it, secret recording devices under the casino room tables catch him red-handed and he's arrested.

The finale ends with a shocking final murder — that of their beloved true crime podcast host, Cinda Canning (Tina Fey).

What will Only Murders in the Building season 6 be about?

It’s clear that the upcoming season of *Only Murder* will center around solving the murder of Cinda Canning. Before she was killed, Mabel, Charles, and Oliver were intrigued by her final episode, in which she discussed a London-based case called "The Girl with the Curls."

"A story about a young woman with curls as red as blood, steeped amid the London fog, the prime suspect in the murder of a royal descendant," Cinda says on her podcast. "The public has turned against her, and, fueled by the British tabloids, there have been threats against her life. But I believe this girl with the curls is innocent, and I feel a strong need to protect her, to send her to America, which may be the only place she can be safe."

We then cut to a woman with red curls who wobbles towards the Arconia and collapses in front of it. When the trio turns over the body, they see none other than the face of Cinda, dead. In her hand is a bloody boarding pass from Heathrow to JFK.

And so the scene is set up for a potentially thrilling season 6. How did Cinda manage to get herself caught up in one of her own true crime stories? We'll soon find out.

Series creator John Hoffman previously spoke with *The Hollywood Reporter* about the direction of season 6. “There was a lot about looking at where we are going to be setting our next season, and thinking about the origins of storytelling around crime and mysteries and murder mysteries, cozy murder mysteries," he said.

“All of a sudden,” he continued, “it all came together as wanting to look at origins for both the storytelling nature of what is at the source [of the detective genre] through the Agatha Christies and Arthur Conan Doyles and on and on, and on to podcasting today and that line between them, and what that might hold as fertile ground for next season beyond the incredible character that Tina Fey created for us that got this ball rolling.”

In June 2026, a massive list of guest stars was announced for season 6. The central trio will be joined by a top-notch ensemble of British and Irish stars, including *Bridgerton*’s Simone Ashley and Nicola Coughlan, *Doctor Who*’s* *David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker, *The IT Crowd*’s Richard Ayoade, and Oscar winner* *Jim Broadbent.

But the names don’t end there. We also have Martin Freeman (Peter Jackson's *The Hobbit* trilogy), Sharon Horgan (*Bad Sisters*), Jamie Demetriou (*Fleabag*), Adrian Lukis (*The Crown*), Kathryn Hunter (*Poor Things*), Jennifer Saunders (*Absolutely Fabulous*), Sean Teale (*The Lady*), Amar Chadha-Patel (*Willow*), Rhea Norwood (*Heartstopper*), Matthew Beard (*The Testament of Ann Lee*), Anjana Vasan (*Killing Eve*), Jane Horrocks (*Chicken Run*), Derek Jacobi (*Tomb Raider*), and Lesley Nicol (*Downton Abbey*).

Rounding out this terrific cast is none other than Ginger Spice herself, Geri Halliwell-Horner.
