- *High Potential* wrapped its second season on April 7.

- ABC's hit procedural has been renewed for a third season.

- The season 2 finale marked Steve Howey's last episode as a series regular.

*High Potential* aired its season 2 finale aired on April 7, leaving fans with a slew of cliffhangers — including a brutal, blood-soaked moment that put Capt. Nick Wagner's (Steve Howey) survival in jeopardy.

With his fate still up in the air and plenty left unresolved, fans are understandably curious if the Kaitlin Olson-led ABC crime series will be back.

Here's everything we know so far about *High Potential* season 3.

*High Potential* is officially coming back for season 3. On March 5, the show's official Instagram page confirmed the news in a joint post with stars Olson, Javicia Leslie, and Judy Reyes.

"The case isn't closed," the caption teased. "#HighPotential has been renewed for Season 3!"

That said, season 3 might have a slightly different vibe. Multiple outlets are reporting that showrunner Todd Harthan is stepping away to focus on the Disney+ live-action series *Eragon*.

How did *High Potential *season 2 end?

The season 2 finale of *High Potential *revealed new details about Roman, the absent father of Morgan's oldest child, Ava (Amirah J). After initially thinking he was dead, Morgan discovered over the course of the series that he was working as an FBI informant at the time of his disappearance. Also, he may very well be alive.

In the finale, she learns that he was working with a corrupt FBI agent named Lyla Flynn who was involved in money laundering and the sale of classified intel. It's suspected that Roman murdered Lyla after she made the decision to come clean, and there's security footage that gives the theory credence. A fearful Morgan asks Major Crimes to "stop digging" into the case, but the team is too deep to stop now.

Kaitlin Olson will still do anything for a laugh on 'It's Always Sunny'

Later, Morgan receives a call from Wagner, who tells her that his politician father (Clancy Brown) set him up with an "FBI ghost" with info on Roman. Wagner tells her to meet him at a local park, but when she arrives she finds him shot and bleeding out.

Ava, meanwhile, is haunted by a shadowy figure at her art show. Could it be Roman? Lots of fans seem to think so.

What will *High Potential *season 3 be about?

There's no official synopsis for *High Potential *season 3 just yet, but Olson teased what's next in a chat with PEOPLE.

"So many cliffhangers, I know," she said. "There are so many places that we can go with this next season. It's very exciting and it definitely starts with, does Wagner make it or not?"

She added, "Now more than ever, now that somebody that she deeply cares about got really hurt or is potentially dead, everything changed. I mean, I think she just wants to put the lid back on, but it's too late. That's just always so much more fun to watch when things are completely off the rails, and it's certainly more fun to play."

Olson also teased what might happen if Morgan crosses paths with her ex, Roman. No matter his reasons for leaving Morgan and their daughter, Ava, Olson said Morgan is bound to be furious.

"We've been talking about it for a couple years now, trying to figure [it] out," she explained. "This is so complicated. My instinct would be that it's going to be very, very confusing, and probably there's going to be a lot of anger. She is a bit of a hothead anyway, so it's also just more fun. But no matter where he was, if he's still alive, and he has stayed away from her and his daughter for this long, I think she's going to be livid. I'm not sure there's any excuse that's going to be one that makes it okay."

ABC has yet to reveal the cast for *High Potential *season 3, but we do know one major player who will not be returning. EW can confirm that the season 2 finale marked Howey's final appearance as a series regular. *Deadline* was first to report the news. The outlet also noted that Howey could return as a guest star.

But Olson will certainly return as Morgan, and we can't imagine the show without Leslie as Daphne, Reyes as Selena, Deniz Akendiz as Oz, and Daniel Sunjata as Karadec.

Olson also told TV Insider that Jennifer Jason Leigh and Brown will also return as fixer Willa Quinn and politician Nick Wagner Sr. Both are deeply tied to the mystery surrounding Roman.

"We've definitely not seen the last of Jennifer and Clancy because I strongly believe that the Roman thing needs to reveal itself sooner rather than later, or people are going to start to get annoyed. People like me," she said. "But it's very up in the [air]. I'm not even giving you a spoiler or not because we don't know yet."

Is there a release date for *High Potential *season 3?

As of this writing, there's no release date for *High Potential *season 3. The show's first two seasons both premiered in mid-September, so there's a solid chance we'll be seeing Morgan and the rest of the Major Crimes team back in action sometime in the fall of 2026.

Where can I watch High Potential?
