Bryson DeChambeau is looking to raise his game to a new level at Augusta National this week.
While winning his first Masters would certainly qualify, the two-time U.S. Open champion is also upping his technology game by bringing a self-designed 3D-printed 5-iron with him. The club still requires USGA approval before it can be used in competition, and it remains unclear whether that clearance has been granted ahead of Thursday's opening round.
When asked why he chose to debut the club at the Masters, DeChambeau said simply: Because it was finally ready.
"We'll see where it goes. We'll see where it takes me," DeChambeau told ESPN. "All I could say now is, if I don't put them in the bag, it's my fault now."

DeChambeau told ESPN he used the new club during a nine-hole practice round.
"There's this nature that I have about myself where innovation is a habit of mine, and I really find and take pride in that ability to learn – even through failure, even through making a bad decision or a good decision – what I can get from that," he said.
Things seem to be paying off as he's won his last two LIV Golf tournaments in Singapore and South Africa.

DeChambeau has come close to winning his first green jacket each of the past two years. He was in the final group and briefly led the tournament during the fourth round last year before eventually blowing up and shooting 75 to drop into a tie for fifth.
In 2024, he posted his first top-10 at Augusta, finishing in a tie for sixth. He was also the Masters' low amateur in his first trip to Augusta in 2016.
